I'm hoping to do one of these every two to three months in 2025. That will give me a nice way to check back at the end of the year and see where my fannish interests tended to wander throughout the year.
Not too many new fandoms right now, but I have had a chance to go back and revisit a bunch of old fandoms. Which is just as fun, really. It's like reconnecting with an old friend. In a few cases, I found myself growing more invested in these fandoms the second time around.
First, I had a chance to rewatch the teen sci-fi show "Kyle XY" for the first time in ages. My roommate walked in while I was watching the pilot episode and sat down to join me, and that lead to us watching the whole thing together. I think maybe it was because I had a chance to experience it with a friend this time, but I definitely enjoyed it a lot more during this rewatch than I had when I first saw it. I've even written my first fanfics for the show! (Though I'm not sure if I'll post them or not. I think I need more time to learn how to write these characters before I get the point of being ready to share my work.)
After that show was done, my roommate admitted that she hadn't watched really any of the teen shows that were popular when she was a kid. This of course lead to me turning on "Teen Wolf" for her. To my shock, she loves it. It's not her usual kind of show, but she got hooked almost immediately and we started a full series marathon. As with the other show, I found myself actually enjoying it a lot more this time around. I wouldn't have considered myself a Teen Wolf fan before, but now I've gotten invested enough to start a new Tumblr blog for it and started posting fan content. Icons, moodboards, and even churned out a couple dozen fanfics over the past couple months. Yeah, I'd say I'm hopelessly lost down this fandom rabbithole. I'll have to add it to my Active Fandoms list.
As far as new fandoms, I've started watching the new HBO Max series "The Pitt". It's a medical drama starring Noah Wyle about the emergency department of a hospital in Pittsburgh. Medical drama, check. Noah Wyle, check. Set in my home state, check. Of course I was gonna give it a try. I was surprised by how good it is though. I love all the characters so much. The format is really good as well, with each episode covering one hour of their shift. We're about halfway through Season One right now (it's airing weekly despite being a streaming series) and I can't wait for each new episode to release.
And that covers it for now. I haven't been watching a whole lot lately. I just don't think I have the mental/emotional bandwidth to dive into new stuff.
Current watchlist? I actually have nothing to report right now. I'm currently just rewatching random shows and movies that I already know and enjoy while trying to ease some of the stress from work. Maybe next month I'll be ready to dive into some new stuff again.
