Unboxing: Furby Haul

Found a couple wishlist Furbys on eBay recently, and actually managed to win them at auction. Also came across a display of Furblets at Walmart and picked up a couple. Since the new(ish) Furbys were due to arrive in the mail any day, I decided to wait and unbox them all together.

This first little guy has been on my wishlist for years. A working 1998 dalmatian Furby with brown eyes. Obviously, eBay is always a bit of a gamble as far as what quality the products are going to be, but I was genuinely impressed with this purchase. The fur was spotlessly clean and still soft, and I couldn't find any defects on the plastic parts. I haven't put in batteries to test him out yet, but I'm really happy with the results so far. I can already tell he's going to be my favorite.

My second eBay find was this McDonald's plush keychain cow. Ideally, I'd like to collect all of the McDonald's plush keychains at some point, but the cow Furby has been at the top of the list for me. I had one as a kid and it was actually the first Furby I ever owned. So this was mostly a nostalgia purchase. I'm happy with how good the condition is, though. Another good buy.

Now, time for the Furblets! There were a ton of these guys from various different waves stuffed onto a top shelf in the corner, so I pretty much had my pick of them. (Might go back over the next few weeks to grab some more.) Unfortunately, none of my wishlist guys were there, but I did grab two that looked cute. Luv-Lee (Wave 1) and Hoo-Lah (Wave 3) were my choices this time. Hoo-Lah, admittedly, because the pineapple theme reminded me of the Psych tv show.

I decided to leave Luv-Lee in her box for now since I don't have space to display her anyway. I pulled out Hoo-Lah, though, because I was really curious what Furblets actually look like in person. I'm... very undecided on them. It's kind of cute but also a bit ugly, and I can't figure out which side of that spectrum they lean more towards. Not a fan of the huge ears. (Though they do fold down to cover the Furblet, turning it into a fuzzy ball, which is cute.) They still look vaguely Furby enough for me at least.

Something I did love about the packaging is the "Tiger Electronics" label on the box. Brought back a flood of nostalgia to see that on a Furby again.

And there they are! (Minus Luv-Lee, who is going to be confined to her cardboard jail until I can arrange a place to display her.) I think the size comparison is interesting to note. The Furblets are actually a good size proportion to the 1998 Furby; I was never a fan of how big the original Furby babies were, this feels better. It does make me curious to see how big the adult 2023 Furbys are compared to the 1998s. I'll have to find out if/when I finally manage to find one at a good price.

On a side note, I've decided to go ahead and add some Furby pages to this website. Definitely going to add a page to the shrines section, but might also add a collection page and a wishlist page, for my own use (because keeping the different collectibles sorted is a nightmare).
