NaNoWriMo Check In - Week 2

Survived another week! That is actually cause for celebration for me because week two is usually when I would drop out of NaNo, convinced the whole thing is hopeless. I was admittedly feeling that way a few times this week.

After falling massively behind last week, I managed to do quite a few words over the weekend... only to immediately lose that momentum once I returned to work on Monday. If only my boss understood why I need to take a full month off of work so I can write. :(

BUT, not all was lost. My writing group did a 12-hour writing marathon at a local high school's library. We started at noon and wrote through to midnight. We held little games and competitions to help spice things up, and everyone brought fun prizes for people to win as they hit different word goals. It was honestly the most fun I've had writing in a long time. More importantly, I managed to catch up completely! I was shocked honestly. Over the course of the twelve hours, I managed to get roughly seven thousand words typed out. That's the most my brain has ever focused in my life. Not only caught up, but actually a little bit ahead.

There's another casual writing event at a coffee shop tomorrow afternoon, so I'm hoping to get even farther ahead at that event. I want a little bit of a safety net so I don't fall behind again.
