Daniel smiled in amusement as he watched his wife struggle to keep her skate's blades straight. "You want a little help there?"
"No, no," Vala said, attempting to wave him off, which almost unbalanced her completely. "Though I would like a word with whoever thought it was a good idea to put people on a hard surface with only these thin strips of metal to balance on."
"You know, we can always get off the ice and wait in the cafeteria for the others to be done," he said. He subtly let one hand hover near her back in case she truly ended up going down.
"No, I'm fine," she insisted. "I said I wanted to experience all of your Christmas traditions and I meant it. No matter how confusing those traditions might be."
"Just wait until you find out about fruitcakes and ugly sweater contests."
She shot him a questioningly glance, as if trying to gauge if he was being serious or not.
Daniel laughed and leaned in to drop a quick kiss on her forehead. "Come on," he said, grabbing her hand and threading their fingers together. "Let's take a lap together."
Vala shuffled over to let him fall into place beside her. "Alright," she relented. "But I nearly had it."
"I know you did," he lied, switching hands so he could loop his arm around her shoulders.
"Maybe the next tradition you teach me should be something less hazardous," Vala suggested. Snuggling a little more into his grip, she added, "And less public, maybe?"
Daniel hummed his agreement. "I was thinking when we get home I could teach you about a custom involving mistletoe."
Vala grinned. "Ah, yes. Sam explained the basics, but I'm sure I could benefit from a more practical demonstration."
